Deep-dive profiles
1) Notion
Notion combines documents, databases, and project tools in one workspace. Individuals get unlimited pages/blocks on the free tier, and paid tiers add advanced permissions, longer history, and more automations. Notion now integrates Calendar and Mail to streamline planning.
2) Coda
Coda lets you build “apps” inside docs tables with formulas, buttons, automations, and Packs to connect to external services. Pricing is per Doc Maker; collaborators are free viewers/editors, which is cost-efficient.
3) ClickUp
ClickUp is task-first with strong Docs: write specs, attach to tasks, and track delivery in one place. The free plan supports unlimited tasks and collaborative docs; the Unlimited plan starts around $7/user/month annually.
4) Microsoft OneNote
OneNote’s notebook/section/page model is perfect for lectures, brainstorming, and handwritten notes. It’s free and works across platforms; recent updates (like paste without formatting) modernize the experience.
5) Evernote
Evernote shines for capture and retrieval (search + web clipper). Be aware that since 2024 the free tier limits devices; the Personal plan restores multi-device sync and higher caps.
How to choose (decision framework)
- Do you need tasks + docs tightly fused? Pick ClickUp.
- Do you want a single flexible workspace with databases? Pick Notion.
- Do your docs need spreadsheet logic & automations? Pick Coda.
- Do you prefer handwritten/freeform notes (esp. in class)? Pick OneNote.
- Do you clip and search web content constantly? Pick Evernote.
Pro tip
It’s common to pair tools (e.g., write in Craft or Notion, manage delivery in ClickUp). Choose one as your “home,” then integrate others as needed.
